A Little Christmas Magic

In Uncategorized on December 18, 2013 at 1:17 pm

Sometimes Christmas takes a little more effort. This year is one of those seasons. But sooner or later, the magic happens. For me, it happened at my nieces’ church Christmas play.

I’m writing about the play, fidgeting kids, an unwed mom, an immigrant baby, and other Christmas stories in my latest column for the Arizona Republic. Oh, and Merry Christmas! http://t.co/FC1on1DD7X

Developing Leadership

In Uncategorized on December 5, 2013 at 7:39 am

My husband was recently a part of the 10th class to graduate from the Hispanic Leadership Institute-West’s program. In layman’s terms, the 10-week institute helps people like my husband connect passion with purpose so they can positively impact the lives of people our community.

He stood alongside a policeman, community college administrator, human resources manager, secretary and hotel marketing manager to receive his certificate of completion. Each individual wrote a pledge, articulating how he or she will use this education and newly expanded network to change the lives of neighbors.

As I took pictures of his graduating class and also snapped photos with our friends, City of Avondale Mayor Marie Lopez Rogers and Senator Anna Tovar, I noticed my stepson watching proudly from the sidelines. He was learning what it takes to serve our community, catching a glimpse of what his own future can hold.

You can read more about Valle del Sol’s Hispanic Leadership Institute and my experiences in watching my husband participate in this program in my latest column for the Arizona Republic. http://t.co/P7kwU9wfE2
